St. Jean d'Aulps is a traditional Savoyard
village in the Aulps Valley 5km north of Morzine and on the "Route
des Grand Alpes". The town was originally formed around the 13th
century abbey and now has a resident population of about 3,000. The
village has shops, bars, restaurants, tennis courts, children's play
areas, ski resort, school and, to tempt you, estate agents.
All of our accommodation is in or around the village and easily reached
by car, being around 30 minutes from the autoroute. |
| If you simply
wish to relax for some or all of your holiday then there are a host
of local places to visit. Swim, sunbathe or enjoy boating facilities at
nearby Lac de Montriond, a pretty lake nestling in a picturesque
valley. Close by is the charming hamlet of Lindarets where
you will find goats wandering freely about the village. The lake at Les
Gets has a lifeguard,
children's play area and a mini bungee. The lake at "Min
d'Or" boasts
spectacular views down the Vallée de la Manche towards Morzine and has
fine restaurants and walks. |

Just over the Swiss border
at the East end of Lake Geneva is Montreux and nearby Château
Chillon . The castle is very well preserved and its dramatic position
on the lake at the foot of the mountains is spectacular.
Montreux is a very cosmopolitan lake side city with beautiful buildings
lining the foreshore. As well as being famous for its jazz festival you
will also see a tribute to Freddy Mercury, a former inhabitant. There is
a 'Riviera' feel in this fashionable city. |
| Annecy is a picturesque
medieval town nestling alongside a beautiful lake. Take a wander through
the narrow streets, enjoy a coffee in one of the many cafes or walk in the
lake side parks, visit the chateau or relax on a pleasure boat cruise. Also
worthwhile is a drive around the lake which will take you past the famous
island castle. |

About half an hour to the
north via the winding and picturesque Aulp Valley lies Thonon-les-Bains on
the shores of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) , a pretty resort
incorporating a marina along with boat trips on or across the lake. There
is a busy shopping centre, gardens and promenades together with beach facilities
and water sports. The town's Hypermarkets carry a wide choice of those
special treats to take home. |
| A little further along the
lake side to the east is Évian-les-Bains, famous for its
bottled water. Here is another charming resort with interesting shopping
and also home to a large casino. The lake side promenade is a very
leisurely and scenic walk. From any of these lakeside towns
you can hop on and off boats stopping regularly at each place on a "bus
route" |

Geneva, about an hour
and a quarter's drive away is a bustling city on the western side of
the lake. Take a tour around the old town, visit St. Peter's basilica
and stroll along the lake shore near the spectacular fountain. There
are a plethora of excellent shops offering internationally renowned
quality goods at value for money prices. Geneva is a surprisingly
compact city which is easy to drive to, and to walk around. |
